Frequently Asked Questions

Confidentiality----accredited counsellors work to a strict ethical frame work and will not reveal anything you say to anyone else without your specific consent. All accredited counsellors are required to attend professional supervision to ensure safe, ethical, practice. Supervisors are also bound to observe confidentiality. The only time we could consider that confidentiality might be breached would be for issues covered by law i.e. child protection and terrorism or if there was a real danger that you might seriously harm yourself or someone else. You would always be consulted before any action was taken.

Accreditation----means that counsellors have already completed several years work with clients and their practice has been rigorously assessed by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) as having reached a proficient standard. This standard has to be maintained through supervision and continual professional development and has to be renewed anually.

Counselling and Psychotherapy---- the terms are often used interchangeably. In general the term psychotherapy is used to address deeper issues over a longer period of time and counselling for more specific work over a shorter time frame. However the therapeupic work is always done in partnership between client and therapist, it is regularly reviewed and the focus may change as the work unfolds.

How Many Sessions---- there is no rule it can vary enormously. Often people agree to work for six sesions, review progress and then discuss the possibility of more time.

If you have any questions about the way I work please do phone and we can talk it over.
